Frank Conlon is an Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics with a joint appointment in the Department of Biology. His research interests focus on the molecular mechanisms involved in the induction and patterning of the early heart tube using X. laevis and X. tropicalis as model systems. His lab is also interested in technologies of high throughput identification of genes and regulatory elements in X. tropicalis and the integration of these approaches to other complimentary model systems. The Conlon lab has collaborated previously with the Magnuson and Jones labs and looks forward to future collaborations with other Center members.
Leonard McMillan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science. He received his PhD from UNC and returned here in 2003 after serving as a faculty member at MIT. Leonard has a background in computer graphics and engineering and is a pioneer in the novel approach of image-based rendering. His current interests include developing algorithms, tools, and visualization techniques for computational genetics. This has led to productive collaborations with other Center members including Wei Wang, Fernando Pardo Manuel de Villena, and David Threadgill.
