September 1, 2006 UNC-Chapel Hill is host to the 2006 Community Genetics Forum, a yearlong series of events engaging the local and broader community on the ethical, legal, and social implications of the human genome project. The forum is sponsored in large part by the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) and will culminate in a three-day event during Sep 14, 15, and 16. Scientists, clinicians, educators, and policymakers from NHGRI, including Director Francis Collins, will be attending and participating in all the activities. Most of the events are free and open to the public, including several geared toward undergrads, graduate students and postdocs. Forum organizer Barbra Rothschild along with Francis Collins and CCGS/Genetics faculty member Jim Evans will discuss the CGF on WUNC’s live radio show on Tues, September 5 at 12:15 pm. They will also talk about genetics in North Carolina more generally from both a scientific and social/ethical perspective. Live streams and podcasts of the show will also be available via the State of Things website. |
