CCGS researcher Morgan Giddings has been awarded an exploratory grant totaling $40,822 from the Department of Biomedical Engineering for a project entitled, "A systems-biology examination of antibiotic tolerance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa for cystic fibrosis". This award will fund exploratory research in collaboration with Shawn Gomez (BME) to develop computational models of networks and pathways involved in antibiotic drug tolerance. The project will also involve initial metabolomic studies with Tom O'Connell, Director of the UNC Metabolomics Facility. The researchers hope that these preliminary efforts will lay the groundwork for a larger systems-biology project in the future that elucidates the mechanisms of antibiotic drug tolerance with the ultimate goal of developing new therapeutic strategies to prevent antibiotic resistance. |
