A new internship training program for Information and Library Science masters students has been created beginning this academic year to support genomics and bioinformatics research on campus.  This program is jointly supported by CCGS, the Health Science Library (HSL), and the School of Information and Library Science (SILS).  Students are directly supervised by HSL faculty, are housed in the HSL’s Application Development Services Department, and participate in the Bioinformatics@HSL team.  Students will gain experience in developing and implementing applications, information services, and educational programs for the UNC bioinformatics community.  This internship is part of a larger effort spearheaded by Brad Hemminger to create an information and library science subunit of CCGS.  The first student to fill this position is Vedana (Nani) Vaidhyanathan, who will be working with Barrie Hayes and KT Vaughan of HSL as well as Brad Hemminger of SILS.  CCGS faculty will likely hear from Nani in the coming year as she will be performing interviews and surveys to assess bioinformatics support on campus.
