Fifteen of the nation’s most promising biomedical researchers were named as this year’s Pew Scholars by the Pew Charitable Trusts and the University of California at San Francisco.  Among them is CCGS/Genetics researcher Karen Mohlke who began her career as an independent scientist at UNC-Chapel Hill in 2004.  Dr. Mohlke will receive $240,000 over four years to pursue her research in identifying genes that influence type 2 diabetes susceptibility.  The Pew Scholars in the Biomedical Sciences program was established to provide crucial support to researchers in the early- to mid-stages of their careers.  Since 1985, the Trusts has invested more than $100 million to fund nearly 400 scholars.
