Wei Wang Wins Microsoft Fellowship and NSF CAREER Award
CCGS/Computer Science faculty member Wei Wang is one of the first five recipients of the New Faculty Fellowship Award announced by Microsoft Research on May 25, 2005. The new program honors early-career academics in computer science who “demonstrate exceptional talent for novel research and thought leadership in their discipline," according to Microsoft. Wang will receive a $200,000 cash grant to pursue her research in data mining and bioinformatics. She will also have an opportunity to explore collaborations with some of the top researchers working in her area of interest at Microsoft Research. Only one nominee per university is considered for this program. The five recipients were selected among a total of 110 nominees. Earlier this year, Wang also received a prestigious CAREER award from the National Science Foundation. This five-year grant will support her research concerning pattern recognition in large, complex datasets.
